Raul Midón
I went with Susan last night to the ICA to see Beverly Knight, who was predictably fabulous. The gig was part of the iTunes Music Festival which, amazingly, I won tickets to! Great to be three rows from the front in that tiny space with a ten piece band and full on performance from Beverly Knight. But the star of the show, for me, was the support artist, Raul Midón, who I'd never heard before. His great soul voice, with hints of Stevie Wonder and Sean Benson, his incredible guitar technique and a unique ability to mimic a variety of jazz horn licks, made him sound like a whole band and wowed me with a deep joy. His intensely emotional lyrics made me cry, especially Song for Sandra, which spoke so much for how I currently feel. Check him out in this uTube clip.
